Academic Staff of Holy Child College of Education reject Newly appointed Principal

The Academic Staff of the Holy Child College of Education at Sekondi Takoradi has rejected the newly appointed Principal of the College by the Colleges Council.

The staff in a press conference organised on Thursday, March 11, 2021, indicated their dissatisfaction with the newly appointed principal om the basis of her qualification in line with the Colleges of Education Act 2020 (Act 847).

According to the staff, though they respect the decision by the College Council, they can not work with the newly appointed Principal as major stakeholders of the College and cannot work under an unqualified person as their principal.

Proof of Facts

According to the Academic staff, they have proven beyond all doubts that the appointee does not have the relevant academic qualification to lead the College which has PhD holders and PhD candidates as Tutors.

The staff described the move by the council as unfair and a brach of the Colleges of Education Act 2020 (Act 847).

Appeal

The Staff used the medium to appeal to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of CAAPECOAST the Director-General of Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, The Minister of Education, and al other relevant stakeholders to as a matter of urgency, revoke the appointment of the appointee with immediate effect.

They also called on the stakeholders to restrain her from holding herself as the principal of the Holy Child College of Education.

Audit

The academic staff are also calling for an immediate audit of the Academic qualification of the newly appointed principal and her credentials to ascertain the veracity of the basis on which she was offered the appointment.

Re-advertisement

The Academic staff are calling on the College Council not to hastily appoint a new college principal but to re-advertisement the position in the National Dailies to get qualified candidates for interview and selection.

Engagements

The staff reiterated their decision not to have any engagement with the new appointee because she does not qualify to be their College Principal.

Suggestion

The Academic Staff suggests, that one Senior member of the Academic staff be appointed to be acting whilst the Council finds a newly qualified principal for the College.

Cooperation

The staff said they are prepared to cooperate with any newly qualified appointed principal to the College.
