The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has assured teachers who applied for upgrading to senior ranks in the Ghana Education Service (GES)  shall be upgraded and placed on their rightful scales.

Speaking on the GNAT Hour radio show on July 23, 2022, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, Prosper Takyi confirmed that almost all applicants to various grades including upgrading and promotions shall be put on their rightful scales.

He added, that this will include both senior and junior ranks.

”By the end of September this year, almost all applicants to various grades will be placed on their rightful scale including upgrading and promotion to senior and junior nranks”He said.

Promotion Portal

On the opening of the promotion portal by the GES, the chairman said the p[ortal was not yet opened but teachers should get ready as soon as possible.,

”Promotion portal for 2022 is not officially opened yet. Those who will be writing this exam should p[repare accordingly.” He said.

 

Promotion Letters

With the promotion letters of teachers who passed the promotion exams last year, the chairman indicated, that the various Metro, Municipal and District Education Directorates or Regional Education Offices have such letters.

He suggested that the various districts can go to their respective regional offices for them.

 

Responsibility Allowances

Mr Propser Takyi said that responsibility allowances go with the job description.

He added, that a Principal Superintendent who is appointed as a headteacher will get a relatively larger amount because headship is the sole and unshared job of Assistant Director 2 and or above rank holders.

Salary Equality

Prosper indicated that the union leadership and the Trade Union Congress are fighting for all workers and article 71 holders to be at the same salary level on the Single Spine Salary Structure.

Salary Increment

Mr Prosper said Leaders are aware any salary increment below 20% will worsen the condition of teachers and workers next year, hence will fight for an appreciable percentage for 2023.
